If you'd like to understand better why Senator Ted Cruz stood for over 21 hours straight on the Senate floor speaking out against Obamacare (doing a filibuster), it has to do with the Senate rules of "cloture."
Cloture is the closure or the stoping of talk/debate on a bill and it takes 60 votes to get cloture. Cruz wanted to keep the talk going and needed 41 Senate Republicans to unite behind him on this procedure. If all 41 (notice, not 40) would have backed him, then effectively the Senate would be supporting the Houses of Representatives bill which eliminates Obamacare from the budget. Cruz said that a vote for cloture would effectively be a vote for Obamacare. In the end (after 21 hours and 19 minutes of filibustering), the procedure didn't work, leaving the door open for Majority Leader Harry Reid to erase the "do not fund Obamacare" language from the bill and to reinsert "do fund Obamacare" language back into it. BTW, I know that Cruz read his kids a Dr. Seuss bedtime story while he was pulling his all-nighter in the US Senate against cloture concerning the HB which elimated Obamacare funding....BUT if he needed material to read, why didn't he pull out the 2700+pages of O'care itself to read??!! That way, as he was starting to wane and collaspe, he could have acted out how O'care was killing him and the nation! just sayin'.
