Every November many Americans celebrate Thanksgiving by giving their dutiful thanks and then quickly moving on to what have become the main attractions of the day, stuffing ourselves fuller than our much anticipated turkeys and then rushing out the door so as not to miss the flurry of “Black Friday” sales (that now actually start on Thursday.) Retailers seductively dangle their door buster specials in front of bloated consumers beckoning them out of their tryptophan stupors as if they were about to become a million dollar lottery winner.
Sadly in my eyes Thanksgiving is fast becoming nothing more than a day of pure consumption, a day of gluttony and greed. Who can eat more and find the best deals. Pathetically retailers know they can play upon these silly notions that somehow camping out in front of the local big-box retailer for 3 days in the cold instead of celebrating and giving thanks with loved ones merely to save a hundred dollars on a cheap TV makes you the smarter shopper. Never mind it will most likely be on sale again or be cheaper the week before Christmas.
There once was a time when Thanksgiving was seen in society as a day when people would come together just for the purpose of celebrating each other and expressing their gratitude for the blessings in their lives, big and small. People found joy in reaching out to others not so fortunate, experiencing the joy of giving and sharing and making somebody’s day that much better because somebody cared. Thanksgiving was a day that brought out the very best of us. Today we are also seeing it bring out the very worst of us more than it should.
I don’t mean to be a scrooge and rain on your Thanksgiving Day Parade. I love Thanksgiving and the Christmas season. I just can’t help but to question where we are going as a people when a person’s ability to sense it is wrong to trample another person to death simply so they can be first to get to the blue light special is simply not there! We have learned not to be shocked by this behavior or at least not any longer than five minutes at the most. I guess I am just feeling sentimental over good manners and the days when society used to view this day as revered.
So many Americans are caught up in the quest for more thinking they will be thankful once they attain everything they desire. The things that truly matter are being forgotten in the rush. It doesn’t matter if you have much or little if you are not grateful for what you have then you are missing out. Even the poorest Americans have much to be thankful for. We are very blessed as a Nation let us always remember that there is much we can find to be thankful for. I saw a quote that is so very true on this day; “If we’re not happy with all that we have….what makes us think we would be happier with MORE?”
On this Thanksgiving please take a moment to be kind to others, help those less fortunate than you and hold your families close. Give God thanks for His mercy and kindness. Nothing is guaranteed or promised in our lives but they are our lives to live to the fullest of our abilities and that is a blessing we should all be most thankful for. Thanksgiving is a day that once highlighted the very best of mankind let’s keep that Thanksgiving tradition going. Charity starts at home, OUR homes.
What does a city look like where Unions are able to muscle out fiscally responsible and independent candidates while throwing big money at candidates who will be beholding to their Union agendas? Let’s see, Chicago comes quickly to mind fitting that description as well as Detroit and Sacramento. Could our beloved Phoenix soon be joining the ranks of those once great cities now singing the Union Blues?
The answer is maybe. August 27th is the primary election and the residents of Phoenix’s District 6 will go to the polls and decide their fate, actually they will decide all our fate as Arizonans. As Phoenix goes, so will Arizona. The ripple effect of local government is far reaching and profound when it comes to corruption, fiscal irresponsibility and bad policy. The ripples of bad government eventually reach us all.
Phoenix has a choice to make and it should be easy. Sal DiCiccio has been a stalwart friend of Phoenix fighting for job creation which is key to keeping a city alive and healthy! Some of Sal’s most notable accomplishments are:
Job Creation and Business Reforms
Arizona needs Sal’s continued help. Take a look at some of his accomplishments that help are helping us Statewide:
Sal DiCiccio’s Fiscal record speaks for itself but we need to help get the word out if we are to continue to have a voice that is fighting for our fiscal health. Sal has worked hard to cut waste and inefficiencies for hard working taxpayers. To date, Phoenix has cut $79 million in government waste and the City has a $43 million contingency fund, the largest in city history. But, here is what else Sal helped get accomplished:
What Sal DeCiccio has stood and opposed on our behalf:
Clearly Sal is a threat to the union agendas of lining the government employee’s pockets while cutting much needed monies the city needs to grow and stay and before you know it the city is broke and needs a tax increase to meet a swollen city budget.
Of course the Mayor of Phoenix, Mayor Stanton, is supporting Sal’s opponent. I wonder if he is still bitter about Sal not supporting his infamous “bathroom bill” this past year that allows for transgendered men to use the women’s bathrooms in the city of Phoenix or if it is just the whole progressive and union agenda that Sal will not accept that causes Stanton to support team Keogh, Sal’s opposition. Maybe it is just as simple as he is just in favor of whomever the union asked him to supports but I am only assuming. All the more reason each and every one of us needs to tell our friends and neighbors to get out and vote for Sal DiCiccio on August 27th. We all are depending on him to keep us from singing union blues.
Today a few more Americans will wake from their slumber of ignorance, rub the sleep of disinformation from their eyes and see their country for the first time through the eyes of truth. Somewhere, somehow America has become the land of the subjective rather than the land of inalienable rights. The rule of law, The Bill of Rights and the Constitution are no longer the cornerstone’s on which we are being governed. Today we are being ruled over by those who have mastered the art of deception and can spin their wicked agenda’s into the prettiest packages that will sell the American people on their newly altered truths for the mere price of their freedoms and liberty.
Once one awakens from this slumber of ignorance and propaganda it can feel as if they are still dreaming or possibly living in an episode of Seinfeld where they have entered into Jerry’s Bizzaro America. Good is bad, God is evil, up is down, winners are losers and right is the center of a very hard left. A true testament of accomplishment for the busy spin doctors of deceit that spew these altered truths to create their desired misconception of the day. The goals of such messages are not meant to inform or educate Americans but rather to re-educate and distract. It has become difficult if not impossible for the average person to find the core truths these days and this is not by accident.
So the questions these stunned newcomers to reality usually ask is when did this happen? How did this happen? The answer is simple, it happened over time. It happened during the course of America’s busy lives. It happened during The Ed Sullivan Show and American Idol. It happened while we were sleeping thinking somebody else would stay vigilant over our freedoms and way of life while we could just tend to our own busy lives. Each generation being lulled deeper into a methodical, deliberate slumber designed to keep the eyes of our Nation closed so her citizens would not take notice of the thieves that were slipping quietly into the most trusted places of public office, our schools and our most sacred places of worship attacking our morals. Now these thieves of liberty have become strong enough and emboldened enough to target the very heart of America, our families. The long reach of government regulation and control has found its way into our homes and is trying to play the role of mother and father to our children while we are left standing on the sidelines of their lives.
The Futures of our children are fading fast and yet so many cannot shake off their sleep induced haze to see the danger signs going up all around them. Many will just think this cannot really be happening but for those waking they will ask how did this happen? The answer to how this happened is the same answer to the question of when it happened. Time coupled with apathy is the culprit and as the beloved Dr. Seuss asked, “How did it get so late so fast?” We have been rocked to sleep by a slow, methodical and reassuring lullaby that has been singing us the praises of a “New Deal” , “Hope and Change” and of a land where all American’s will move “Forward” in equality and security.
The newest version of the American lullaby is a serenade ever so gently or maybe not so gently reminding us that we have nothing to fear if we have nothing to hide. In other words those that are waking up and fearing what they see are the ones that are to be feared. We have been conditioned to believe that this is America and bad things can’t and don’t happen in the shadows because the media would be out in front of it on our behalf keeping us informed. The American media that for generations have been entrusted by the people to stand guard and keep our government accountable were considered as America’s watchdogs. This just in; (to those that have been asleep) in a not so sudden turn of events the media has become the lap dogs of the government working side by side with politicians and their consultants to set the talking points they want spoon fed to the public. Sadly we are learning so late in the game that we have put our trust and our very lives in the hands of those that have not deserved the faith we instilled in them.
In America today it is becoming all too apparent that the promises of safety and security are becoming more palatable than having to wake up and fight to protect ones rights, the very rights that were given to us by God himself and defended throughout the years by the blood and sacrifices of the patriots before us. Far too many people today are willing to exchange their God given rights for a false sense of security and a free ride and the marauders of our Republic are taking full advantage of America’s sleepy yet fearful state of mind that is allowing them to strip the citizens of the rights they are entitled to. Who is doing such a thing many may ask? Take your pick! We have most recently the NSA, the IRS, EPA, DHS, TSA, UN, SCOTUS, etc…along with their issues they create behind closed doors for the sole purpose of control by instilling fear and a feeling of helplessness ranging from climate control to birth control.
For this apathy and lack of awareness we cannot just blame one generation. America has been on a downward spiral for some time now from the “Greatest Generation” to the “Boomers” and into our techie and moody Gen X and Y’s each generation drifting further and further from what America was founded on. And now our children who are being called the “Millenials” are in a death spiral along with the rest of us as the Rip Van Winkles of America sleep on and the Media sings their lullaby. Keep sleeping America and we will all go down in history as the Last generations to see America as she was supposed to be. We will be known as generations Z as in Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
