Ski resort and govt. agencies are investigating
Sunrise Park Resort is working with federal, state, county, and tribal officials that are investigating an illness outbreak at the ski resort a week ago.
According to a news release, a preliminary investigation has ruled out both food and water as a source of the illness. That conclusion suggests it could be a case of norovirus, a highly contagious virus that is spread by physical contact with contaminated surfaces.
Resort officials say the norovirus was probably brought to the ski area by an outside individual or group.
Sunrise has followed all recommendations including sterilizing all surfaces as well as taking other precautions.
Sunrise is located in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona and is owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
