PHOENIX (AP) _ A man and woman are in custody for alleged child abuse after authorities reported finding their Phoenix apartment full of feces and rotten food.

Randall Bresaw and Kona Erbe were arrested Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to the apartment after complaints of strong odors coming from inside.

When officers went inside the apartment to check on two children living there, they reported finding fecal matter smeared on the walls, dirty diapers on the floor and rotten food in the kitchen.

Police say the two children, ages 3 and 4, have been placed in foster care.

They say Bresaw also being held on suspicion of drug paraphernalia and marijuana possession.

Police didn't immediately know Tuesday if either Erbe or Bresaw has a lawyer.
