Two men from Guatemala who were in the country illegally are sentenced for their roles in a hostage incident in Mesa.

Domingo Agustin-Simon, 31, and Leonardo Rabanales-Casia, 30, will go to prison for a combined 67 years.  Evidence at the trial showed evidence they were part of an alien smuggling operation responsible for bringing illegal immigrants across the border into the U.S. and harboring them at a Mesa drop house.

In August 2011, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and other law enforcement raided the drop house and found over 40 illegal immigrants inside.  The smugglers threatened the aliencs with physical harm and death if their families did not pay up.

One hostage was beaten and some of the women were victims of sexual violence.

Four other co-defendents were previously given sentences ranging from 24 months to 8 years behind bars.
