Sky Harbor: Check Your Bags Before You Park

New program at East Economy Parking

Just in time for the holidays, Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has introduced a new program called Early Bag Check, in partnership with Southwest Airlines and US Airways.

Here's how it works: When you pull into the East Economy parking lot, there's a dropoff spot for your luggage and your passengers.  If you're flying US Airways or Southwest, you can check your bags then and there, before you even park your car.  Sky Harbor spokeswoman Deborah Ostreicher says it's a free service, although airline baggage fees will still apply.

She says other airlines are expected to join the program.

Early Bag Check was already planned for the new PHX Sky Train station at 44th St. and Washington, where passengers can transfer from the Metro Light Rail directly to the Sky Train, which will open early next year shuttling passengers to Terminal Four.  Construction is already underway to extend the Sky Train to Terminals Two and Three, which is expected to be ready for operation in 2015.

As long as airport officials were going to offer Early Bag Check at the Sky Train station, they decided to also offer it to passengers who drive to the airport.

Also for the holidays, Sky Harbor is offering reduced-rate parking in the terminal garages.  If you're parking in the garages adjacent to Terminals Two, Three, or Four, you can go online and print a coupon that's good for 40% off, reducing the fee from $25/day to $15/day from now through January 7th.  Visit www.phxskyharbor.com .
