Police are investigating a stabbing near 69th Avenue and Thomas Road, just east of G. Frank Davidson Elementary School.

Authorities say this all began as a domestic dispute between a husband and wife.

A 911 call was placed around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.  According to police, when officers arrived at the scene, the male was found inside the home.  The woman was outside with over a dozen stab wounds.

Phoenix Fire Dept. Captain Jonathan Jacobs says the male victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the female was transported to an area trauma center.

At least one of the couple's three children witnessed what happened.

"The kids are okay..three kids that were in the main house that we believe are their children may have witnessed this and there were four other kids that were in a detached garage at the time," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump.

The wife stated to officers that she woke to find her husband stabbing her and he stabbed himself to death afterwards.

The medical examiner will investigate to see if her story checks out.

No names have been released in this case.
