Westwood High School's principal is under fire for an unusual punishment.

MESA, Ariz. (AP) _ An Arizona high school principal is drawing fire for his unusual choice of punishment for two male students caught fighting, he forced them to hold hands in front of classmates.

KTVK-TV reports that Tim Richards, the principal at Westwood High School in Mesa, Ariz., recently ordered the two students to publicly hold hands for an hour or face suspension.

The boys reportedly got into a fight during gym class.

But the punishment didn't stay within the school's walls. A photo of the boys holding hands eventually made its way onto social media.

The Mesa Public School District says they don't support the punishment and will address the matter with the principal.
