Mother's Against Drunk Driving has kicked off their "Tie One On For Safety" red ribbon campaign as a reminder to keep our highways safe this holiday season.
In 2011, 265 people were killed and 3,000 people injured in alcohol related accidents according to Kelly Larkin of MADD. "Between Thanksgiving and New Year's, 45 people are killed here in Arizona," said Larkin.
MADD urges to avoid jail time, fines and an interlock device on your vehicle, plan ahead and get a designated driver if you are going to have cocktails while celebrating the holiday season.
Larkin says if there is a fatality crash, you lose two people. The one who leaves loved ones behind and the other person who is going to prison for a long time.
It's a complex problem with a simple solution, plan ahead if you're drinking this holiday season get a designated driver.
