The Smithsonian exhibit “Native Words, Native Warriors” will be on display along with “Navajo Code Talkers: Photographs by Kenji Kawano”

Starting Saturday October 27th and running until March 31st, the Heard Museum will display pictures and posters teaching about the history of Code Talkers.

“The Code Talkers created a formal code and were able to take military terms and strategies and code them in a language that was virtually unknown to the rest of the world,” said assistant curator, Marcus Monenerkit.

The exhibit “Native Words, Native Warriors” has been traveling since 2006, but it’s the first time it will be at the Heard Museum.

Besides a talking Navajo GI Joe, a display of Military Weapons and the Movie “The Power of Words: Native Languages as Weapons of War” pictures by Photographer Kenji Kawano will be on display.
