Their problems ranged from neglected hooves, abscess, emaciation, depression, and parasite infection.

AVONDALE, Ariz. -Last Sunday, animal cruelty detectives responded to a complaint of starving horses at a residence near Southern and 123rd Ave in Avondale.

Four of the six horses belonging to owner Manuel Maria Siguenza were found to be in poor physical condition in various stages of emaciation, according to MCSO.

Their problems ranged from neglected hooves, abscess, emaciation, depression, and parasite infection.

MCSO says the owner had not provided any medical attention to the four horses. They were seized due to the severity of their conditions and transported to an equine veterinary facility.

Once the horses have recovered they will be taken to the MASH Unit to be cared for by inmates.

Siguenza was booked into jail on 4 counts of animal cruelty, and 4 counts of failure to provide medical attention necessary to prevent protracted suffering.
