Cars stuck in the mud in rural part of Surprise.
Water rescues are in progress in a rural area of Surprise, off the US 60 and Grand Avenue at 166th Avenue and Dale.
The rainfall has settled into the ground causing multiple cars to be stuck in mud. Crews are trying to find a way to get the cars out and roads cleaned up.
The water seemed to be an inch or so but it suddenly rose, and even one of the rescue units got stuck. The current was strong enough that it was able to move the fire department's truck.
During Thursday night, crews rescued people from eight different vehicles that were stuck in the water left from heavy rainfall.
Crews also searched for people from the air.
All the water was the result of heavy rains further north that formed a wall of water as the runoff headed south.
Roads in the area were shut down while the rescues were going on during the night.
People were kept off the roads to keep from water damage to their cars, or danger to themselves.
One person hurt their ankle but no other injuries occurred.
