Break the law you will pay steep fines.

Phoenix police will be out patrolling around schools as they kick off their month long 2012 School Zone Enforcement Program.

Lt. Brian Lee said the message is "slow down and pay attention to the signs." Lee adds in school zones, 15 miles per hour means 15 miles per hour. "There is zero tolerance for speeding you can get a ticket going one mile an hour over the speed limit" said Lee.

Fines are steep for school zone violations. Passing in a school zone carries a $171 fine, speeding $250 and passing a school bus picking up or dropping off kids with its stop sign out will cost driver $487.
