Jeremiah Billie accused of trying to attack a woman near Mill Ave.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — A man suspected of trying to sexually assault a woman near Arizona State University has been arrested.

Tempe police said Monday that 22-year-old Jeremiah Billie is being held in Tempe City Jail on suspicion of kidnapping and attempted sexual assault.

The 29-year-old woman told police that Billie had followed her into the Mill Avenue district after accommodating her request to light her cigarette.

Police say Billie tried to engage the woman in conversation before allegedly forcing her into an alley about 3 a.m. Saturday.

A passerby noticed the two struggling, confronted Billie and called 911.

The woman suffered minor scratches.

It was unclear Monday whether Billie has a lawyer yet for his case.
