One student taken into custody.
PHOENIX - North Canyon High School was locked down Thursday morning following reports about a female running around the campus with several knives.
A staff member first noticed the student acting suspiciously, said Principal Elaine Jacobs. A Phoenix Police School Resource Officer then saw that the girl was carrying knives and called for backup.
Police say she threw one of the knives at the officer, but it bounced off their clothing. She refused to put down the knives, so police attempted to tase her once, but that didn't work. Upon a second attempt, "she went down," according to Sgt. Tommy Thompson.
After the unidentified female was taken into custody, the lock down was lifted.
Police say she is a junior at the school, located near 16th Street and Union Hills.
Earlier in the day, police and firefighters responded to small fire in a 2nd floor restroom, said Jacobs, but it's not known if these two incidents are related.
"North Canyon staff and students followed district emergency protocols and procedures this morning, and no staff or students were harmed," stated Principal Jacobs.
"I am extremely proud of our staff, students and our district support team. We have all prepared and practiced emergency protocols, and the value of that practice was evident today. Observant staff members had a concern, reported it immediately and followed through to insure the safety of our students."
The school day resumed after the lockdown was lifted. The principal sent a letter home with parents.
