Sheriff blames the President
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu says roadside amnesty has already started in his county. And he says it didn't take long.
"Within hours of the U.S. Supreme Court Justices upholding the main portion of Arizona's SB1070 law, President Obama and Janet Napolitano, with a wave of their hands, have made what was illegal one day, legal the next. They can't pass their dream act, so they change enforcement policies, which undermines the rule of law," according to Sheriff Babeu.
He gives an example of deputies stopping a car for speeding at 85 mph in a 35 mph zone. The driver was Hispanic, 17, with no license, no insurance, and no identification to qualify for a license. U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement was called but Babeu says they did nothing since the teenager, even though born in Mexico, had been living in the U.S. the majority of his life.
The deputy was told by ICE that since the teen had been in the U.S. for more than five years, they were not interested in him unless he committed a felony crime. So, the 17-year-old was cited and released to his mother.
Babeu blames it on President Obama and DHS Secretary Napolitano for revoking the 287g agreements with Arizona law enforcement on the same day of the SB 1070 decision.
Babeu says, "The President fails to understand the...impact created by his decision to not enforce immigration laws..........What other laws will the President wave and not enforce?"
