Police Dog in Tucson Left in Hot Car Euthanized

The K-9 left in a hot squad car outside Tucson DPS headquarters had to be euthanized.

A drug-sniffing dog for the Arizona Department of Public Safety who authorities say was left unattended in a hot squad car for more than an hour has been euthanized.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Carrick Cook said the Belgian Malinois named Jeg was euthanized Thursday. The dog had been rushed to a veterinary hospital

His temperature was extremely high when he was found.

The agency says the officer who left the dog unattended was distraught.

Jeg was left unattended after his partner was switching from one patrol car to another at DPS headquarters in Tucson.

The officer was immediately sent to a rollover crash, but realized on the way that he had left Jeg in the first vehicle.
