Police say after a suspect was arrested new information lead detectives to the weapon.

PHOENIX (AP) _ Authorities say a handgun found in a Phoenix canal could be linked to a murder last year.

Phoenix police say 25-year-old Oswaldo Rodriguez was killed during an armed robbery of the Yerberia San Simon store on March 3, 2011.

Rodriguez was a nephew of the store owner.

Police say Rodriguez was shot in the head during a struggle with two men who demanded money. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A police dive team searched a city canal and say they found a handgun that could be linked to the shooting.

Police say 38-year-old Jesus Blas Garcia was taken into custody Tuesday. They say evidence left at the murder scene already has been linked to Garcia. It's unclear whether Garcia has legal representation yet.
