Police don't know why victim was targeted

Phoenix police are looking for the car involved in a daylight holdup in the parking lot of a large shopping center near I-17 and Loop 101.

Around 11:30 Friday morning, police say a 23-year-old man was walking through the parking lot at Deer Valley Center toward the AMC 30 movie complex, where he was going to meet up with his girlfriend to attend a movie.  A car pulled up next to the man as he walked.  Someone inside the car pointed a gun at him and ordered him to get into the car, where he was relieved of his wallet and other valuables.

Investigators say the man then managed to escape from the car but as he ran away, a shot was fired from inside the car, striking the man.  He managed to make it to a nearby restaurant to seek help.  The victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where he underwent immediate surgery.

Witnesses said the car drove west through the parking lot and then north on 31st Avenue.

The car is described as a late '70s or early '80s Cadillac.  It was silver in color with a white top, very dark tinted windows, and a broken window on the driver's side.  Anyone with information is asked to call Phoenix police at (602) 262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (480 - 948-6377).
