Tucson Police Sgt. Recovering After Being Shot

Police are still looking for a person of interest

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Tucson's police chief says an officer is recovering following surgery for a bullet wound to the head and a search is on for the suspect.

Chief Roberto Villasenor says Sgt. Robert Carpenter was talking and aware of his surroundings after being shot just before dawn Sunday.

Carpenter was responding to a second break-in call at a home in the city's midtown area when he was shot. No suspects were immediately found and officers were standing outside the house when they heard a loud noise and Carpenter fell wounded.

Police are looking for a 20- to 30-year-old Hispanic man with balding hair, weighing about 160 pounds, wearing a dark blue jersey with "43" on it and blue .
