What's a self-righteous global warming alarmist supposed to do? Why can't they find some Republican legislators who are willing to sell out the prosperity of the country, just for the sake of a few computer-created projections?
"...climate activists (are) sending people to GOP lawmakers' district offices during the August recess, running ads lambasting "climate change deniers" in Congress and pushing to make global warming a decisive issue in the 2014 and 2016 elections.
The activists stress, however, that this is a long-term strategy. They're thinking in terms of years, not months.
Some greens have a wish list for the kind of Republican they’d want to see joining their team - someone like Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie or former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. But several liberals said the transformative figure they're looking for may not be on anybody's radar yet.
"I think it'll be a surprise," one key official on the lookout for green-minded Republicans said. "I think it'll be one of the names we're not talking about."
Well, there is a surprise in-store for the true believers in man-made global warming, and it's not one they'll like. Those computer models that the faithful have believed in ever since Saint Gore wrote them into Holy Scripture back in 2006?
A leaked copy of the world's most authoritative climate study reveals scientific forecasts of imminent doom were drastically wrong.
The Mail on Sunday has obtained the final draft of a report to be published later this month by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the ultimate watchdog whose massive, six-yearly 'assessments' are accepted by environmentalists, politicians and experts as the gospel of climate science.
They are cited worldwide to justify swingeing fossil fuel taxes and subsidies for 'renewable' energy.
Yet the leaked report makes the extraordinary concession that the world has been warming at only just over half the rate claimed by the IPCC in its last assessment, published in 2007.
Back then, it said that the planet was warming at a rate of 0.2C every decade - a figure it claimed was in line with the forecasts made by computer climate models.
But the new report says the true figure since 1951 has been only 0.12C per decade - a rate far below even the lowest computer prediction.
And that polar ice cap that was retreating faster than a battalion of French infantry? Turns out the ice cap is, in fact, growing faster than the national debt.
2007 prediction that summer in the North Pole could be "ice-free by 2013" that was cited by former Vice President Al Gore in his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech has proven to be off ... by 920,000 square miles.
In his Dec. 10, 2007 "Earth has a fever" speech, Gore referred to a prediction by U.S. climate scientist Wieslaw Maslowski that the Arctic's summer ice could "completely disappear" by 2013 due to global warming caused by carbon emissions.
However, instead of completely melting away, the polar icecap is at now at its highest level for this time of year since 2006.
But what about the polar bears? Those cute little fuzzy-wuzzy critters who frolic in the Arctic all year long, eating free-range humans and are threatened with extinction by global warming? Turns out they're doing better than ever.
There are far more polar bears alive today than there were 40 years ago," author Zac Unger told NPR in an interview about his new book, "Never Look a Polar Bear in The Eye." "There are about 25,000 polar bears alive today worldwide. In 1973, there was a global hunting ban. So once hunting was dramatically reduced, the population exploded."
Additionally, a report from earlier this year found that polar bear populations in the area between Greenland and Canada may have reached the limits of what their natural environment can handle.
Here's handy tip: Whatever side of the argument Al Gore is on, pick the opposite and you'll do just fine.
