Flake: I Couldn't Get Re-Elected As Republican

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake said he's not seeking another term because he couldn't get re-elected in the Republican Party right now.

Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," Flake believes someone should challenge Trump in the primary leading up to the 2020 election, but cautioned it would be a tough battle.  He added that the Republican Party is the Trump party right now, but that's not to say it will stay that way.

On how his colleagues in the Senate should respond to the President's behavior, Flake said it's their responsibility, at least at some point, when he goes too far to stand up and say, "This isn't normal and we should not normalize this behavior."  Flake believes this does real long-term damage to the political culture in the U.S.

The senator added that words matter, as Trump continued his attacks on the press during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday night.  Flake said it has an effect when Trump refers to the press as the enemy of the people.
