Phoenix Voters May Decide Dark Money Influence

The Phoenix City Council is looking at restraining the influence of dark money in city campaigns.

In a six-to-three vote along party lines, council members move forward with exploring a city charter change that would require political non-profit organizations that spend money to influence elections to disclose their donors.

Dark money is unlimited funds given to nonprofit special interest groups to spend on elections.

The Phoenix clerk and law department will now craft ordinance language for the council to consider.  Voters in Phoenix would have to approve any charter change.
