Anti-Abortion Bill Advances In State Senate

A bill that would put more restrictions on abortions passed out of the State Senate Health and Human Services Committee Wednesday.

The vote was five-to-two and along party lines.  Senate Bill 1394 would require that doctors who perform abortions ask a woman why she is seeking the procedure and report the answer to the state.

The bill's sponsor, Republican Nancy Barto, says the bill is about collecting better data to improve womens' health.  But opponents claim it's simply a way to prevent women from getting abortions.
