South Mountain Freeway Wins Legal Victory In Court

The construction of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway continues to move forward after another victory in court.

A ruling released by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the ruling of the U.S. District Court of Arizona on all issues.

The Gila River Indian Communtiy along with environmental and community groups have filed at least six lawsuits in hopes of blocking the Loop 202 expansion.  They argued ADOT did not comply with federal laws in planning the freeway.

Construction of the freeway is underway and expected to be completed by 2019.
