U.S. Army PFC Robert Upchurch was nominated by his mother, Laurie Beardslee of Phoenix. My son Robert is my Hero as a young man he felt a strong pull into the service and as much duty to protect this Country for his younger brother and sister. As he put it Mom I love u and will miss u terribly I want to show u and the world how great flu I am to what this GREAT nation has provide me. As my oldest son deployed to Afghanistan I was scared but so very proud of the man he has become. He has introduced me to some amazing men and woman who he proclaims are his brothers and sisters. My son Robert stepped on a IED during a convoy with GODS grace and protection. After the IED went off it through him head first into a humvy and now my 23 year old boy is being treated for PTSD and severe migraines and hearing loss in both ears. With all this my sons military career is coming to a close and he has learned so much and grown leaps and bounds. Please help me show this young man that the world loves him and appreciates his sacrifice today and every day. After all that he has seen from deployment and health wise he has had several men in his platoon commit suicide since their return he has stated this is the hardest thing to feel so helpless not being able to help his brothers. Thank you- PFC Upchurch is a Phoenix native and attended Sandra Day O’ Connor High. PFC Upchurch is currently stationed in Seattle at Joint Base Lewis-McChord where he is recovering from injuries.
