SSGT James Bates is nominated by this brother, Benjamin Bates: "Staff Sargent James Bates has served in the military for over 10 years. He's now working in Arizona as a Drill Sargent. He's served in Iraq on two separate deployments and has just returned from a third deployment in Afghanistan. Staff Sargent Bates is my brother and has become my "army guy" hero. I've never had the opportunity to let him know how I appreciate his service and for defending our freedoms. I'm hoping he becomes the KFYI - Sanderson Ford Military Hero because he is my hero and a American hero." SSGT Bates' home base is Phoenix and is currently serving in Tucson. SSGT Bates is married with two children.
