My grandson, SPC Mason Steill, a 22 year old combat medic was critically wounded by an IED while on foot patrol in a remote area of Afghanistan on June 1, 2012. Despite being blinded and hearing impaired by the blast to his face he continued to attempt to aid his two patrol companions who were also injured. Mason, a Chandler born and raised resident (graduate of Corona Del Sol High School), has been in Walter Reed Hospital since his transfer to the states on June 4th. There he will remain in the Wounded Warriors Rehab Center for an indefinite period of time while doctors continue to repair his damaged body. His parents and I spent several weeks with him in the hospital and despite his incredible pain and injury, the only regret he ever expressed was that he would not be there for his "guys" in Afghanistan! There is no greater hero, than he who is willing to put his life on the line for his comrades and his country. Mason is a true Hero!
Signed,
Candy Steill
