Richard P.

I would like to nominate SPC Richard Pico for the Military Hero of the month because he is what a dedicated American truly is. SPC Pico joined the Army in 2004 to become a Civil Affairs Specialist. Immediately after graduating from Basic Training and AIT he was deployed with his unit to Afghanistan. He was assigned to a Provisional Reconstruction Team in Laghman Province helping to rebuild the infrastucture of the country. He was involved in several firefights and mortar attacks, and was awarded the purple heart when the HUMMWV he was driving struck an IED causing permanant hearing damage as well as a back injury. After returning from deployment, he served the remaining time of his service and ETS'd. He had completed his service and served his country honorably. After 3 years of time out of the military he decided he hadn't done enough for his country and joined the Army Reserve again. Since coming back, he has completed Air Assault School, and the Warrior Leader Course. His dedication to his country is above and beyond the typical American and that is why I think he is a Military Hero.

Signed,
Bobby Lozoya
