Lance Corporal Garrett Zeigler is a native of Arizona and a 2005 graduate Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix and joined the United States Marine Corps in October of 2008. He was deployed (Afghanistan) in April 2010 with Dixie, a beautiful black lab trained to find explosives. Here is why Garrett is My Military Hero. Garrett's unit was patrolling a village near their base which had been very active. Attached to the Marine unit were interpreters with two way radios. They warned the Marines that an attack was about to happen. Lance Corporal Zeigler took roof top position where bullets whizzed atop his head and all around the area. Corporal returned fire and immediately knocked down seven enemy fighters shooting at him. During this frenzy, enemy rounds found their way to Garrett. One through is neck (and jaw-chin area) and another one passed through his shoulder. Garrett was evacuated from the battlefield to several countries hospitals and surgeries. He is now stateside and recovering from his injuries. He was been awarded a purple heart and we are very lucky he is with us today. Lance Corporal Garrett Zeigler is now at Camp Pendleton in San Diego recovering from his injuries. Semper Fi Lance Corporal Garrett Zeigler. **Garrett received a Purple Heart at Camp Pendleton on 09/02/2010** Note: Dixie stayed with Lance Corporal Zeigler's unit and will return stateside in November.
