Life Care Centers are Collecting Holiday Items for Children in War-Torn Countries
November 16, 2009

Life Care Centers of America<http://www.lcca.com/>'s Southwest Division office in Chandler is preparing to share the gift of Christmas with needy children around the world.
As part of the 2009 Operation Christmas Child<http://www.samaritanspurse.org/> campaign, the division office and local facilities invites the community to join the team in filling sturdy shoe boxes (or other similarly sized storage boxes) with Christmas gifts. The boxes will be distributed to children in war-torn and poverty-stricken countries by Samaritan's Purse, a Christian relief organization.

Operation Christmas Child participants fill a shoe box with a mix of small toys, hard candy, school supplies and personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and soap. They are also encouraged to include a picture of themselves to create a personal connection. In addition, Samaritan's Purse asks that participants tape $7 to the inside of the box top to cover shipping and transportation charges. Information about what to include and not to include, and labels specifying gender and age range are available at www.samaritanspurse.org.

This year, the division office's goal is to collect 600 completed boxes. Community members can bring theirs to the office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until the facility's final collection day of November 16, 2009.

Life Care Centers of America's Southwest Division is located at 2727 W. Frye Road. Other area Life Care centers serving as drop-off sites for Operation Christmas Child are Desert Cove Nursing Center in Chandler and Citadel Care Center and Mi Casa Nursing Center in Mesa.
